3rd Annual Early Music Day, 9am-6 pm
The Conservatory with The Schubert Club and Lyra Baroque present a day of Early Music performances, workshops, and master classes.
The third annual Early Music Day takes place on February 20th, 2010, from 9:15 am to 6 pm. The event is a co-operative effort of the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music, the Schubert Club and Lyra Baroque. Participants will spend the day rehearsing under the guidance of experts in preparation for a performance at the end of the day. This year’s featured work is Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, a five-act comédie-ballet with text by Molière and music composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully. The final performance will take place in Court Room 317 in the historic Landmark Center in downtown Saint Paul at 5 pm.
Early Music Day is directed by Julie Elhard, an expert in early music, and the director of the Conservatory’s viola da gamba program. Jacques Ogg of Lyra Baroque, is the Artistic and Music Director. A host of experts in the field will be coaching participants in preparation for the final performance including: Marc Levine for strings, Mary H. Waldo for winds, Julie Elhard for the viola da gamba consort, Jane Peck for dancers, and Anthony Stanton for actors.
