Beckett Shuholm

Trumpet

Originally from northern California, Beckett has called Minnesota home since beginning their undergraduate degree at St. Olaf College in 2016. While at St. Olaf, they had the honor of performing with two of the college’s flagship ensembles, the St. Olaf Orchestra (American Prize Winner 2018) and St. Olaf Jazz I (Downbeat Award Winner 2019). Beckett received a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota while studying with Marissa Benedict, one of Los Angeles’ top call studio musicians.

Beckett has performed with a multitude of regional orchestras in the twin cities and surrounding areas, including stepping in as the acting principal trumpet for the 2022-2023 season with the Mankato Symphony to perform Scheherazade and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony. They are also an active member of Brass Lassie, an Irish/Scottish traditional music group with a big-band style horn section. While actively pursuing a career in orchestral performance, Beckett is a passionate teacher and finds joy in collaborating with students as individuals to help them achieve their goals. They approach teaching with enthusiasm, empathy, and perspective.

Beckett’s primary teachers include Dr. Martin Hodel (St. Olaf), Marissa Benedict (University of Minnesota), Bob Dorer (Minnesota Orchestra), Adam Luftman (San Francisco Opera), and Anthony Plog (Freiburg Musikhochschule).
