Matt Liston

Cello

Matt Liston (he/him/his) is an active performer and educator based in Minneapolis. He is currently on the faculty of St Joseph’s School of Music and The Saint Paul Conservatory of Music.

As a performer, he is currently Principal Cello of the University of Minnesota Orchestra, and has held leadership positions with the Saint Cloud and Winona Symphonies. Matt has appeared as a soloist with the WSU Orchestra and was recently awarded 3rd prize in the 2021 Edvard Grieg Society of Minnesota’s National Strings Competition. Matt is currently a masters student at the University of Minnesota, where he studies with Tanya Remenikova. Matt recently was selected as a fellow as part of the Scotia Festival of Music’s Young Artist Program in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he appeared as a soloist and as part of several chamber groups throughout the city of Halifax.

Matt has also studied with Paul Vance and Ruth Marshall and has received additional teaching and coaching from Ani Aznavoorian, Blair Lofgren, Derek Clark and Meredith McCook. In his spare time, Matt loves to hike, bike, and play trivia.
